Description

This fish is distinguished by its elongated snout and yellow-and-blue spotted pattern. It reaches up to 12 cm. It lives in pairs or small groups in Acropora areas. Its behavior is shy and discreet. It feeds exclusively on the polyps of hard corals of the genus Acropora, making it very difficult to feed in captivity. It is sensitive to water quality and stress. In an aquarium, it requires a mature tank with live Acropora corals. It can be kept with peaceful fish but not with soft corals or other hard corals.

Care notes

Temperature 24–28 °C, pH 8.1–8.4, salinity 1.020–1.025. A minimum 200-liter tank is required, with intense lighting to maintain Acropora. Diet must consist of fresh or frozen Acropora polyps, or specialized foods. It is not recommended for beginners. Cohabitation must be carefully chosen: only peaceful fish. Efficient filtration and regular water changes are imperative. Nitrates should be below 10 mg/L, phosphates below 0.05 mg/L. Calcium and magnesium supplementation is necessary for the corals.
