Description
Planorbis corneus has a discoid shell of 2-3 cm diameter, brown-red to black. The body is dark brown. It moves slowly on surfaces and in vegetation. It feeds on detritus, algae, and dead plants. It is hermaphroditic and reproduces easily in freshwater, laying gelatinous egg masses. It can become invasive if food is abundant. It is peaceful and compatible with most fish. It is sensitive to water quality.
