Description
Poecilia reticulata reaches 3-5 cm (male smaller than female). The male is very colorful with varied patterns (caudal, dorsal). The female is larger, gray or olive. It is an ovoviviparous fish: females give birth to live fry. It is very active, swims at the surface and mid-water. It is peaceful and gregarious. There are many cultivated varieties (lyretail, endler guppy, etc.).

The guppy lives in calm, often brackish waters of coastal rivers, canals and ponds. It prefers areas with dense vegetation. Water can be hard and alkaline. It tolerates a wide range of parameters.

Care notes
A tank of at least 30 L for a small group. Water can be hard (GH 10-20), pH 7.0-8.0, temperature 24-28°C. A moderate filter. Plants to hide fry. Omnivorous: accepts flakes, pellets, artemia. Very prolific: separate males and females if you don't want breeding. Compatible with most small peaceful fish. Avoid fin-nipping species (barbs, neon tetra).
