Description

Poecilia velifera is a species of fish in the family Poeciliidae, native to Mexico. Males have a highly developed dorsal fin, hence their name. They grow up to 12 cm. They are ovoviviparous, easy to breed in aquariums. They prefer slightly brackish water and well-planted tanks.

Care notes

Keep in groups of at least 3. Tank minimum 100L. Hard water, pH 7.5-8.5, temperature 24-28°C. Add aquarium salt (1 tsp per 10L) to mimic brackish water. Varied diet: flakes, brine shrimp, vegetables.
