Description
The shell of Tylomelania gemmifera is elongated, conical, golden-yellow to light brown, with spiral striae. It can reach 6-8 cm in length. The operculum is horny and allows closing the opening. It is a viviparous species: young are born fully formed. It moves slowly on the substrate and rocks. It feeds on algae, biofilm, and fish food. It is sensitive to water quality and prefers well-oxygenated water.
