Description
The Louisiana dwarf crayfish reaches 3–4 cm. Its coloration is brownish-gray with lighter spots, providing camouflage. Its claws are small and slender. It is a nocturnal and shy species, spending the day hidden under rocks or roots. It is very peaceful and can cohabit with small fish and shrimp. Its diet is omnivorous, feeding on detritus, algae, and small invertebrates. Reproduction is similar to other dwarf crayfish.

This crayfish inhabits swamps, bayous, and slow streams of the southern United States. It prefers shallow waters with abundant vegetation and a muddy substrate. It tolerates slightly brackish water.

Care notes
Keep in an aquarium of at least 20 L with soft to moderately hard water (pH 7–8, GH 5–10). Temperature 20–26 °C. A fine substrate and plenty of hiding places are needed. It is omnivorous and accepts fish food, vegetables, and protein. Avoid predatory fish. Regular water changes are important. It can be kept in groups if space is sufficient. Keep nitrates below 15 mg/L.
