Description
Halichoeres chrysus has an elongated, fusiform body, with a bright yellow coloration over the entire body, sometimes with blue lines on the head. Adult males develop more orange hues. This species reaches 12 cm. It is diurnal and spends the night buried in the sand. It feeds on small crustaceans, worms, and parasites. In aquariums, it is very active and constantly swims in search of food. It is an excellent fish for pest control such as flatworms. It may jump, so a lid is necessary.

Care notes
Temperature 24-28°C, pH 8.1-8.4, salinity 1.020-1.025. A minimum tank size of 100 liters is sufficient, with a sandy substrate at least 5 cm deep to allow burrowing. Diet should be carnivorous, with brine shrimp, mysis, and small crustaceans. It is peaceful and compatible with most fish. Avoid aggressive or overly large fish. Water parameters must be stable, nitrates <20 mg/L. Moderate lighting and flow are suitable. Captive breeding is rare.
