The Iridescent wrasse gets its name from its shimmering reflections that change with lighting. It is an active and hardy fish, ideal for reef aquariums.
Description
This wrasse has an elongated body and highly variable coloration, ranging from olive green to bright blue with horizontal bands. Dominant males display iridescent shades of pink, purple and gold. The head is marked with fine lines and colored dots. It has a spiny dorsal fin and a rounded caudal fin. It is an active hunter that sifts through sand and crevices for small crustaceans and worms. It is known for its fast swimming and leaps out of the water to catch prey. Like many wrasses, it buries itself in the sand to sleep.

Care notes
An aquarium of at least 200 liters with a sandy substrate is essential for this wrasse. Ideal temperature is 24-28°C, pH 8.1-8.4. Good oxygenation and moderate flow are beneficial. It feeds mainly on frozen or live meaty foods such as mysis, brine shrimp and small fish pieces. It can coexist with peaceful fish but is territorial towards other wrasses. Do not keep with dwarf shrimp or crabs that it might eat. Standard reef lighting is suitable. Weekly water changes of 10% are recommended.
