The Tail-spot wrasse is a colorful reef fish easily recognized by the black spot on its tail. It is active and popular in marine aquariums.
Description
This wrasse has an elongated, laterally compressed body with variable coloration depending on sex and age. Adult males display bright shades of green, blue and orange, while females and juveniles are more subdued. The most striking feature is the large black spot on the caudal peduncle, surrounded by blue dots. It has a continuous dorsal fin and a protractile mouth adapted for catching small invertebrates. It is a diurnal fish that spends its time foraging for food in sand and rocks. It is known for its ability to burrow into the substrate to hide or sleep.

Care notes
This wrasse requires an aquarium of at least 200 liters with a fine sandy substrate to allow burrowing. Temperature should be maintained between 24-28°C, pH 8.1-8.4. Efficient filtration and good water flow are recommended. It is carnivorous and accepts frozen foods such as mysis, brine shrimp and small crustaceans. It can be kept with other peaceful fish but may be territorial towards conspecifics. Avoid housing with very small invertebrates that it might eat. Moderate lighting is suitable, but it appreciates shaded areas. Regular water changes (10% weekly) are necessary to maintain good water quality.
