Paguristes cadenati is a small marine hermit crab with bright red legs, highly valued in reef aquariums as a clean-up crew member.
Description
This crustacean reaches up to 3 cm in carapace length, with bright red legs adorned with characteristic white spots. Its eyes are black and its antennae long and slender. It is active and curious, constantly exploring its surroundings. Sexual dimorphism is subtle, with males being slightly larger. It regularly changes shells as it grows.

This hermit crab inhabits shallow coral reefs and seagrass beds throughout the Caribbean. It is often found hiding in rock crevices or among coral rubble. It prefers sandy areas with good water flow. It uses empty gastropod shells for protection.

Care notes
A tank of at least 40 liters is recommended, with a sandy substrate and plenty of hiding places. Temperature should be kept between 24-28°C, pH 8.1-8.4, and salinity 1.023-1.025. It is omnivorous and accepts fish foods, dried algae, and invertebrate pellets. Avoid keeping it with aggressive fish or predators. It can be kept in groups if enough empty shells of various sizes are provided.
