Description
Trochus niloticus has a thick conical shell, cream to grayish in color with brown or red spiral bands. Adults reach about 5 cm in diameter. Its operculum is dark brown and horny. It is a slow, peaceful grazer, mostly active at night. Sexual dimorphism is subtle, though females tend to be larger.

This marine gastropod inhabits coral reefs and shallow rocky areas, grazing on microalgae and biofilms. It is commonly found on hard substrates, rocks, and the shells of other mollusks.

Care notes
A minimum tank size of 40 L is sufficient for one specimen, but larger (100 L+) provides better stability. Parameters: temperature 24-28°C, pH 8.1-8.4, salinity 1.023-1.025. A rocky setup with grazing surfaces is ideal. Diet: natural microalgae, supplement with dried seaweed if needed. Compatible with all peaceful fish and invertebrates. Beware of predators like crabs or angelfish. Avoid copper-based treatments.
