Very popular barb, recognizable by its vertical black stripes. Active and hardy, but can be aggressive towards long-finned fish.
Description
Tiger barb reaches 7 cm. Its body is deep and laterally compressed, silvery to golden with four vertical black bands. The fins are red in males. It is a lively and gregarious fish that lives in schools. It may show fin-nipping behavior if not kept in a large enough group. It is very hardy and adapts to various conditions. Breeding is possible in aquariums.
Habitat
Region :
It is found in clear rivers and streams, often with moderate current. The bottom is sandy or gravelly, with aquatic plants and roots. The water is slightly acidic to neutral.

Care notes
A minimum 100-liter aquarium is recommended for a group of 8 to 10 individuals. Temperature 24-28°C, pH 6.0-7.5, low to medium hardness. A setup with robust plants and open swimming space is ideal. Omnivorous, accepts all types of food. Avoid keeping with long-finned or slow fish (gouramis, angelfish). A large group reduces aggression. It is a hardy fish suitable for beginners.
