Description
Scatophagus argus reaches 30-38 cm. Its body is laterally compressed, tall and disc-shaped, with a gray-green to silver coloration dotted with dark spots. Juveniles are more colorful than adults. It is a gregarious fish living in schools in estuaries. It feeds on algae, plant matter, and small invertebrates. It periodically sheds its skin. It has venomous spines on its dorsal, ventral, and anal fins.

Care notes
Minimum 400 L tank for a group. Salinity 1.005-1.020 (brackish). Temperature 22-28°C, pH 7.5-8.5, GH 15-25. Strong filtration and regular water changes. Diet: algae, blanched vegetables, plant matter, pellets. Compatible with other similar-sized brackish species. Beware of venomous spines during maintenance. Fast grower.
